Our Bodega

Our bodega formed part of the finca and was originally used as a small cooperative winery for local growers. It was typical of the area with four fermentation tanks open to the ground floor and the underground section having large cement storage deposits to hold the finished wine. Not the modern concept of a bodega by any means, though many still function in this way!

We have retained the character of the building but installed modern machinery to facilitate production on the ground floor and opened and joined the underground deposits to form a honeycomb of storage areas for our barrels and bottled wines to rest and mature. Our first vintage was in 2000.

The making of our wines is very traditional, grapes are all hand picked and after selection the grapes are lightly crushed before fermentation in American oak barrels. The resultant wines are then allowed to age in oak and spend a further ageing period in bottle before being released on to the market.

Our vineyards are located around the finca, we have concentrated on the French varieties of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah and chardonnay and contract local growers for our supply of the indigenous bobal and tempranillo grapes. We prune to ensure that we keep yields low so that there is more concentration in the fruit, in abundant years we remove excess bunches of grapes to maintain quality.
